The key domestic benchmark indices opened lower in the morning trading session as investors stuck to a cautious approach ahead of key central bank meetings this week which might offer cues over the outlook for the global economy, curbing risk taking appetite.
The focus of investors will be on the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan with both central banks slated to begin their two-day policy meetings later today.
At 09:20 AM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 28582.58 down by 51.92 points or by 0.18 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8786.10 points, trading lower by 22.30 points or by 0.25 per cent.
On the global front, Asian stocks were trading lower today as investors remained cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan policy meets later today. US stocks closed higher in the previous trading session as investors appeared to put last week's jitters behind ahead of the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan policy meetings.
