At 12:17 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 29021.83 up by 43.81 points or by 0.15 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8947.2 up by 4.2 points or by 0.05 per cent.
Investors took note of reports that the government has started the groundwork for creation of a secretariat to cater to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, which will be constituted after Presidential assent for the Constitution Amendment Bill enabling implementation of the proposed tax.
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in Indian equities worth Rs 1,439 crore on Tuesday, as per provisional stock exchange data.
On the global front, Asian peers were trading mixed shrugging off Wall Street's higher close as weaker-than-expected US ISM services data lowered the chances the Federal Reserve will hike rates.
