* CONSTRUCTION: NITI Aayog has asked National Highways Authority of India, NTPC, NHPC, and INDIAN OIL CORP to release 393.66 bln rupees worth of pending claims to construction companies against bank guarantees.

* CORPORATE: Of the 76 loss-making public sector companies, NITI Aayog has recommended closure of 26, strategic divestment in 10, and revival of 22 companies, a government source said.

The government has received bids from 12 merchant bankers for sale of shares held by the Specified
Undertaking of Unit Trust of India in various companies, a government source said. The Securities and Exchange Board of India is set to raise the maximum shares that employees can bid in their company's initial public offering to 500,000 from the existing 200,000.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India has laid down stringent rules for promoters and whole time directors of compulsorily de-listed companies to protect the rights of minority shareholders.

* DEFENCE: India's deal to buy 36 Rafale fighter aircraft from France has reached the final stage and could be cleared as early as the next meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, sources said. The government is likely to place an order with Hindustan Aeronautics for 32 Hawk advanced jet trainers under a 35-bln-rupee deal, to meet requirements of the Air Force and Navy.

* RAILWAYS: The Railway Ministry has introduced "flexi fare system" for Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains, under which the base fare for these trains will rise 10% with every 10% berths sold up to a maximum of 1.5 times the base fare.

* SUGAR: Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar, along with representatives of Maharashtra's cooperative sugar mills, met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley seeking a rollback of the government's decision to impose stock limits on sugar mills.
