Indian equity benchmarks were trading in a narrow range during the late morning deals on Thursday after weaker-than-expected Q1 GDP growth in Asia’s third biggest economy, and tracking a mixed trend at fellow Asian peers.

At 11:28 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 28,472.16, up by 19.99 points or 0.07 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 8,794.95, up by 8.75 points or 0.10 per cent.

Indian economy grew at the slowest pace in last six quarters at 7.1 per cent in the April-June period of current fiscal on the back of subdued performance of mining, construction and farm sectors.

GDP had recorded 7.5 per cent growth in the April-June quarter of last fiscal and 7.9 per cent in January-March quarter. The previous low was 6.6 per cent GDP growth in the October-December quarter of the 2014-15 fiscal.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mixed as investors awaited the much anticipated US jobs data to be released on Friday, and which will offer further clues over the timing of the next Fed interest rate hike.
