The Indian stocks continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Thursday as gains in index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, SBI, Hero MotoCorp, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki, HDFC Ltd, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, GAIL, ONGC and RIL, tracking firm cues from Asian peers after US Federal Reserve kept key short-term interest rate steady. Sustained inflows from foreign investors and across-the-board buying by the investors also helped market sentiments.

At 12:10 PM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 28731.83, up by 224.41 points or by 0.79 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8848.45, up by 71.3 points or by 0.81 per cent.


On the sectoral front, oil&gas and PSU stocks were leading the gain, rising as much as 1.27 per cent and 1.15 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2718, shares advanced were 1602 while 928 shares declined and 188 were unchanged.
