Indian equity benchmarks are likely to witness a flat opening on Friday tracking a bearish trend across markets in Asia and a flat finish at Wall Street overnight as traders remained wary ahead of US September jobs report. Losses in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for October delivery which were trading at 8,737.50, down by 3 points at 10:20 AM Singapore time, signal that the Sensex may open flat today. An improved outlook for Asia’s third biggest economy amid the 25 basis points interest rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) this week which may help revive investment and boost consumption, may support sentiment at Dalal Street.
On Thursday, the Indian equities ended lower for the second day as selling intensified in final hour of day's trade across realty, power, banking, IT, pharma, auto and capital goods stocks. Further, weak opening of European markets amid concerns that ECB may withdraw stimulus also weighed on market sentiments. The 30-share BSE SENSEX closed at 28106.21, down by 114.77 points or by 0.41 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8709.55, down by 34.4 points or by 0.39 per cent.
on the global front, Asian stocks retreated on Friday as weakness in the pound rattled traders, while investors remained sidelined ahead of the key US September jobs report due later today. Shanghai Composite remained closed due to a holiday, Hang Seng fell 0.35 per cent, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.2 per cent as a stronger yen dampened the lure for exporter stocks. In the overnight trade, Wall Street settled with modest gain ahead of Friday’s job data amid speculation that the US Federal Reserve may cut interest rates this year as data suggested that the US economy was regaining momentum.
