Indian equity benchmarks extended losses during the afternoon session on Friday as investors globally awaited the US Fed Chair Janet Yellen’s speech later in the day that will offer further cues on US interest rate hike.

At 1:01 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27,747.55, down by 88.36 points or 0.32 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 8,567, down by 25.2 points or 0.29 per cent.

Meanwhile, a sign of near-term US monetary tightening may result in volatility in capital flows into emerging markets including Asia’s third biggest economy.

Shares of Tata Motors rose nearly 1.8 per cent as the automobile giant reveals its April-June 2016 quarter report card.

Selling pressure was witnessed mainly in the capital goods and banking sector stocks.

On the global front, Asian markets mixed amid caution ahead of Yellen’s speech later in the day which may offer cues over the timing of the next Fed rate hike.
