Markets extend gains; Axis Bank, Tata Motors shares advance

The key domestic benchmark indices were trading in a positive terrain in the late morning trading session as traders remained optimistic, ahead of the key macro data of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation slated to be announced after the market hours. Appreciation in Indian rupee too aided sentiments.
Some support also came with report that foreign institutional investors continued to remain buyers in equities with net purchases of Rs 608 crore on Thursday, as per provisional stock exchange data.
At 11:15 AM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 28136.9 up by 277.3 points or by 1 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8669.4 points, trading higher by 77.25 points or by 0.9 per cent.
The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28150.76 and an intraday low of 27900.91 while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8675.2 and an intraday low of 8604.45
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 583.35,+2.68 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 515.75,+2.68 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 376.50,+2.17 per cent), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1034.30,+2.16 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3357.50,+1.63 per cent), among others.
Meanwhile, Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1072.60,-0.42 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 344.85,-0.39 per cent), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 253.05,-0.22 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3006.50,-0.20 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.
On the global front, Asian stocks were trading higher today tracking sharp gains in US stocks which hit fresh record highs in overnight trades.
